Honestly, it's hard to say Don Quixote isn't still the great novel. The mixing of reality and delusion is really the sine qua non of the novel, and it's taken to the nth degree here--right at the beginning of the modern history of the form. Remarkable.

a thought on themes of works: sometimes they are ‘sentence-shaped’, declarative, predicative. Maybe often so. But it strikes me as a mistake to assume all of them are like this; sometimes they’re words or phrases, sometimes they’re hard to linguistically capture at all

I've noticed a lot of my students approaching art (especially modern art), have a hostility towards it because they assume if it's artistic, it has to be somber. When it's not, it feels like a rugpull. No, the best art has the structure of a joke

what cutting edge, experimental magazines and presses should I be reading today? 𝕴𝖓𝖘𝖎𝖉𝖊 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝕮𝖆𝖘𝖙𝖑𝖊, new_sinews, Always Crashing are all amazing of course; am also quite excited about the first issue of blake butler’s Wanted tell me about something exciting I don’t know about

New FERAL DOVE book coming this summer. I still feel pretty good about Sentence-Making. I did an ep on my Patreon about Stein’s sentences, and plan to do more. Eventually I’d like to publish a companion volume just containing the sentences of others I love.
