Today, I released a letter, signed by 67 organizations working across Ontario, asking Doug Ford to rescind Bill 6. We can't adopt Trumpian policies to punish encampments; people need proven solutions — especially housing. Read our letter: tinyurl.com/EJC-Bill6

Alongside 20 environmental groups, TEA sent a letter today calling on Toronto City Council to uphold our Charter-protected freedom of assembly, and vote against any bylaws that restrict this freedom. We firmly oppose any kind of protest ban in Toronto: loom.ly/MW42tio

Canadians don’t want to become the 51st state for many reasons—safeguarding our Charter-protected freedoms is one of them. So why are Councillor Bradford and others pushing for a Trump-style bylaw to limit our freedom to protest in Toronto? Take action: progresstoronto.ca/petition-prote…

Progress Toronto (@progresstoronto) 's Twitter Profile Photo

We agree, Brad. People deserve to be safe—that’s why we have laws on harassment that police themselves have said are sufficient. This bylaw wouldn’t solve these issues. Constitutional experts say this bylaw would violate the Charter. The police say they don’t need a bylaw ⬇️

"I think, above all, this is a report about how landlords exploit tenants for rent in the City of Toronto," says Councillor Alejandra Bravo. "And that this is happening all across this city."

“[The bylaw] is either unnecessary or unconstitutional” Councillor Bradford insists a bylaw restricting your freedom to protest won’t violate your Charter rights. But constitutional expert James Turk sets the record straight ⬇️ Watch & sign: progresstoronto.ca/petition-prote…

Preventing protest around public institutions is a frontal attack on our fundamental right to free speech. Police have full powers to protect people and institutions from violence or harassment. This by-law should be defeated. thestar.com/news/gta/mayor…

Re: proposed amendments to a potential City of Toronto 🇨🇦 'Bubble Zone' by-law, Rachel Chernos Lin's motion is unconstitutional. You cannot limit free expression based on theoretical situations imagined by an applicant from a "vulnerable institution." The applicant may also be prejudiced.

Diana Chan McNally (@diana_c_mcnally) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Sign and share — this isn't right, and it will absolutely limit Charter freedoms. If the city wants to pass and enforce this by-law, it will end in litigation. But let them know now you disapprove of 'Bubble Zones': progresstoronto.ca/petition-prote…

But almost everyone else is cool with the AC program. The pilot project to provide air conditioning units to low-income seniors is APPROVED 16-2.

City Council just passed a bylaw that constitutional experts say would violate your Charter Rights & Freedoms. It is a disappointing vote but we applaud those who voted against. We'll do a breakdown of what this all means, but for now see how your councillor & the mayor voted ⤵️
