The only source of comfort in these days are joint Jewish Palestinian efforts to fight darkness. That's our only hope, and the only long-term solution to striving together.

I told a grad-student co-author 'try to imagine me as the guy from 'Memento' who can't remember anything & needs clues to pick-up the thread on projects' and they said 'I believe you, because you already used that memento analogy'

This is it right here. And this piece from back in October by Melani Cammett Ryan Enos and Steven Levitsky reminds us that we continue to protect them and their rights ESP if we disagree with them so get on board everyone

Regardless of how you feel about the Israel/Palestine issue or the atrocities of 10/7, the way Israel is fighting this war and the situation they have created in Gaza are horrific and indefensible.

Our new preprint explains why social media creates a funhouse mirror--a distorted perception of social norms.

Because extreme voices dominate discourse on most topics, users develop a false sense of shared norms

Jay Van Bavel, PhD Claire Robertson Kareena del Rosario This is a really great, clear finding. And I’ll add that we show analogous results, in a different way, among US politicians: politicians who share more ideologically extreme content are those who—by far—share the most information on social media (note the log scale).

Seems like increases in schizophrenia might provide some decent negative control for the effect of smartphones on mental health outcomes. That is, I doubt phones cause schizophrenia, so maybe there are other (time-varying) confounders for all the mental health outcomes.

Real world debates are not about 'foundations' of liberty or fairness.

They are about *victims*--who is most vulnerable to mistreatment. Cops? Black people? Fetuses?

8 studies show moral debates are explained by diff 'assumptions of vulnerability' (AoVs) btw libs and cons.
