In this poppy field landscape I was varying my usual red colour scheme in order to give the idea of back lighting from a low summer sun. The cottage and hills look like Scotland but it's an imagined landscape rather than a particular place. rebecca-vincent.co.uk/twitter-welcome

A TALL ONE 'Rosy-fingered Dawn' uses a new (for me) colour palette of translucent vermillion and magenta overprinted with greys and mauves. The result glows softly and has an air of tranquility. The title comes from a refrain in Homer's Odyssey. #seascape rebecca-vincent.co.uk/twitter-welcome

I like using double meanings in my titles.
Does Purple Patch mean -
A run of success or good luck.
Or
A florid literary passage? (equivalent of adding a patch of purple material to an undecorated garment)
Mine is a humble field but the textures do look a little like fabric...😉

What could be more glorious that a field of poppies in full bloom? But how to capture the colours and textures was the question I asked myself as I set to work? I thought a lot about the subtle green/gold/red colour contrasts that give an optical “pop”.

Beloved of #garden designers, alliums (onion flowers) make great spherical shapes. Their seedheads are some of the best for autumn/winter interest. WIth this image, I used layers of graded colours to give a sense of back-lighting.

With the wavy stripes going horizontally, this large piece is more suggestive of geology with layers and layers descending below the trees. I'm pleased with the sky here which is fresh and natural with just two layers or colour.
