You can also do synthetic organic chemistry or chemical biology to make reagents for biology at NCBS! Do consider the NCBS PhD program if you are interested in pursuing chemistry based problems for your PhD. My lab will hire PhD students this term and the next term as well.

Delighted to share this. A novel H4 variant that modulates chromatin to mediate salt stress response. This mammoth work was driven to perfection by Vivek Hari Sundar, a wonderful PhD student who also taught me. We report its CryoEM structure & unusual chemistry National Centre for Biological Sciences 1/3

Watching our home-brewed PI3P and PI4P vesicle probes move through neurons feels like blowing bubbles as a kid: fleeting, a little magical. I’m a Doubting Thomas at heart. That’s why I’ve spent so much time learning to image and building probes. I need to see it to believe it.

Great experience presenting my independent research at the NOST-Early Career Researcher Meeting IISER Bhopal before the luminaries of Indian organic chemistry community. Big bonus was catching up with Pratik Kumar who I knew since a fruitful summer internship during college days!

1/ In my BIO101 class, I taught water, the solvent of life, unusual properties of which arise due to hydrogen bonding between deceptively simple water molecules. Our existence is inseparably bound up with hydrogen bonding. Want to know the history of H-bonding? Read the thread.👇
