Morley asks about multiplex unit size. "The units tend to be larger than what the larger development industry is producing. We see larger units. We see more 2 and 3 bedroom units. That seems to just be a natural outcome of the demand and how builders are responding," staff say.

"Where are the people that run our buses, our personal support workers, our childcare workers, or working in construction, or at the City of Toronto — where are they supposed to live?" asks Bravo, pointing out that multiplexes are cheaper than condos on a square-foot basis.

"This is the way you build a city that everybody lives in," says Councillor Gord Perks of multiplexes, noting that before these "missing middle" initiatives, Toronto was on track to only have two housing types: a single-family home, and a "little box in the sky."

Perks says this compromise comes at great risk, including that HAF funds already received could be clawed back. But he says part of the reason he finds himself in this position, is that some Toronto MPs have told councillors they don't actually need to approve sixplexes.

"I say to the federal government, if you want to achieve this city-wide, tell the members of your Toronto caucus to stop giving Toronto city councillors mixed messages," says Perks. He says Toronto MPs should be talking to resident associations and advocating for sixplexes.

This Syrian government cover story is almost as unconvincing as the Ontario government's cover story for its plans to destroy the Ontario Science Centre. The good news is that WE can still change course. canadianarchitect.com/ontario-scienc… #onpoli #topoli Ontario Place for All © Save OSC 🇨🇦

For everyone using "but, overpopulation" as a red herring to avoid tackling the causes of Canadians' massive *per capita* environmental footprint - that issue is resolving itself. Our task is to fix the way we house, transport & care for those of us who've *already* been born.

I'm so tired, man. These two multiplexes in Montreal were the homes my parents were able to provide for two kids on a TA's salary. People often refer to Europe or Asia, but the template exists like 500 km away.

"Just get[ting] it done" isn't helpful when the things you're thinking of doing are stupid and counterproductive. tvo.org/article/the-ri…

NEW: $6,000 per surgery, and the ability to offer patients "uninsured upgrades." That's part of the package private health facilities will receive if they're greenlit by the Ford government this summer. Critics are calling for more patient protection. #onpoli

It feels relevant to observe that there is no box for "African" here. Presumably the thing Zohran was SUPPOSED to do was identify himself as ONLY Asian, because his father's family's century in Africa, and his own birth in Africa, do not count?

This thread also good on the African history that is being ignored. It's very interesting how quickly right-wingers, centrists & reactionary liberals are willing to adopt an Idi Amin logic of national identity. x.com/zunguzungu/sta…
