Just finished Burn Coast by the great Dale Maharidge. Vivid, spell-binding portrait of people and places at the edge of our continent and a clear-eyed elegy for the end of an era and ethos. Glad I didn’t read it before I tried to write about Humboldt; I would never have tried.

What a great choice. One of the finest editors of his generation - cliche alert - but in this case truly deserved - fair, honest and so meticulous. So proud to have worked with him. I will trust the work he overseas. You all should.
