For my scholar-priest or pastor-theologian friends... How are you paying for all of your conferences? I have friends going to AAR/SBL and the NAAL and then Calvin and then and then...what buckets of dollar bills am I missing out on? I need someone to learn me!

Your reminder that Jesus is not “the reason for the season.” The incarnation of the Son of God is the divine solution, the beginning of covenant promises fulfilled, the birth of a king & inauguration of a kingdom w/o end. But make no mistake: sin is the reason for the season.

10 years a priest… I am so very humbled by God’s call and honored to serve his church and his people. Here’s to 10 years of “Here am I, send me!” and here’s to many more to come!

Really eager to read this paper from my friend, Dr. Sanjee Perera. It promises to be rich with much food for thought--I have a feeling it will be deeply challenging as well. Give it a read and a share!

“It is necessary in order that God’s promises of a Redeemer may be fulfilled,—the types of the Old Testament sacrifices be accomplished,—the law of God be satisfied,—and a way for God’s mercy be provided.” - J.C. Ryle, Expository Thoughts on John, 152.

Nothing--I think I mean that literally--compares with Holy Week to ground the Christian. Faithful attendance each day at some sort of gathering, however simple, however poorly attended, will make it work. Each day, with its appointed readings, is a dose of unfiltered gospel.

Church people, I'm looking for your best ideas: What has been the most successful way your church has engaged w/ your neighborhood? Our parish is in a neighborhood and we want to be good neighbors. Blessing of the animals and House Blessings on Epiphany have been great for us

Why the liturgy of Ash Wednesday matters: Liturgy "is a vast & dramatic 'story-ing,' making sure that we are taking our place in the story. Without sufficient liturgical support & structure we are very apt to edit the story down to fit our individual tastes and predispositions.”
