But then the eye of Sauron turned our way! One of the UK's leading newspapers decided that it was imperative that their readers know all about our 7-digit investments. All hell broke loose. We even made Drudge. An honor, and - to be quite honest - a bucket-list item for me. 3/

And not only that, but prominent leftie Twitter accounts like Katherine Stewart and James Lindsay jumped into the fray. 4/

The Guardian article, written by Jason Wilson (depicted below) is barely worth discussing. If it weren't for the sloppiness and false insinuations, there'd be no story at all. I'll give just a few examples. 5/

First, the headline originally stated (without even an attempt to provide evidence) "far-right figures try to create white nationalist ‘haven’." The Guardian then replaced "white nationalist" with "Christian nationalist." Wise choice on their part, legally speaking. 6/

Second, the article shows, to put it charitably, serious gaps in knowledge about how real estate development works (and of course, insinuates the worst based off this abject ignorance). Mr. Wilson should google "land survey," "absorption rate," and "subdivision value." 7/

Third, and most hilariously, Mr. Wilson is extremely concerned that we are not complying with federal law like the Fair Housing Act. New flash: we comply, and we have no obligation to answer "when did you stop beating your wife"-style questions from these people. 8/

I could go on, but that gives you just a flavor of Mr. Wilson's utter hackishness. You can no doubt see why I didn't bother speaking with him. I am more than happy to speak with media if they understand basic real estate stuff. I think our project is awesome! 9/

Despite the shortcomings of Mr. Wilson's article, we are grateful for the further attention he's given us. We've had a very strong day for lead generation - most of them legitimate, aside from a handful of trolls like these lovely people. 10/

I can't help but laugh at all of this, but there is a serious point underneath it. Jason Wilson, the Guardian, his expert "Heidi" Beirich, James Lindsay et al., really many leftists generally, are consumed with malice. 11/

They will stand by - no, they will cheer - while Bill Gates/foreign investors/private equity buy up Appalachia and terraform it into a globally-homogenized pile of slop, obliterating its customs and traditions and dispossessing the locals. 12/

I am a native of Appalachia and want to fight for its future, by developing a self-determinative spirit that guides the gentrification that is inevitably coming on the heels of remote work and other secular trends. 13/

Defiant Appalachia, so beaten down and left behind by history, has something to teach all Americans: an organic, living connection to an older American way of life. I truly believe that a reinvigorated, culturally-productive Appalachia will save America. 14/

That aspirational thinking is an existential threat to the left. Of course, they have myriad of their own affinity-based communities; the "gayborhood' in any American city is an example of this. But they fear right-wing America becoming culturally self-determinative. 15/

Show any sign of life, and they will dispatch ghouls like these to descend on your small towns and make you international news. They are angry because some people, somewhere, however modestly, had the gall to envision a future in which they have no input. 16/

But Appalachia, figuratively and literally strip-mined for decades, will remain defiant in the face of interlopers like this. We are just getting started. While not much of what we've done so far is truly newsworthy *yet*, that's going to change very soon. 17/fin
