The @MetPoliceUK say 75% of s136 detainees are removed to an Emergency Department as the first Place of Safety under the MHA. And for 50% of those, it’s purely because there is no alternative, not because the person actually requires ED care. How long can that go on?!

I've noticed a change on mental health inpatient wards in patient's physical health in the past 8 years. This seems to also vary depending on the demographics of the area. 8 years ago when I first worked in the UK on an inpatient ward, oncalls were mainly quiet. Medical 1/

“I can’t tell his doctors he’s not taking his medication because they will discharge him again”. From our Facebook group. This mother discussing her psychotic son may not be right, but it’s a valid fear. Discharge of SMI patients happens for all sorts of peculiar reasons.

Who is responsible for notifying the DWP on hospital admission? It’s required when benefits are involved, otherwise debts build up. It seems to vary regionally from a discussion in our Facebook group this morning. And sometimes no one seems to takes responsibility. Needs sorting

“It took several years to wait till my son was bad enough for a section 3. We just had to make the best of the situation”. From our Facebook group this morning. What a waste of time, energy and negative emotions. Not to mention risk. There simply has to be a better way.

There’s a post today in our Facebook group about mental health teams not allowing emails from carers. Calls or 111 calls are “allowed” if things get urgent. Other than that, no emails. Because MH teams know everything? Because carers have no insight? What a bloody mess

Why are mental health staff always asking patients if they want their information shared? Repeatedly asking is bound to trigger a no response, with all the anguish for families that that entails. And for what benefit? Why not assume info can be shared unless informed otherwise?

Sitting behind these everyday examples of multi agency working not actually working… is the lack of a bed (when one is required), piss poor commissioning arrangements & the lack of the required legal literacy✔️>

"Whistleblower warned police against axing mental health callouts" - Strictly speaking, I cautioned them against axing mental health callouts they should still be going to, but near enough. Also nice to see West Midlands Police did not deny ignoring my concerns. thetimes.com/uk/crime/artic…
