POLYP recently partnered with Act.it.Network in hosting the Tropical Trash Bash 2024. An initiative to increase waste literacy while cleaning the beaches of Suva and using the marine litter to create these amazing pieces of art. Check out some of the photos from the bash!

The burden of addressing plastic pollution and its long-term environmental consequences will also fall heavily on today's youth, affecting their quality of life and economic opportunities in the future. Youth participation is a must!

Summertime in the Suva City

In commemoration of World Coastal Cleanup Day, the POLYP team braved the wind and rain to clean the beaches of Laucala Bay, Suva. A big vinaka to SPREP SWAP Project for the swag. We had come a long way from having a rain bath during our activities.

POLYP conducts Household and Coastal Waste Audit Training for Ra districts. 26 representatives from the Navolau and Nakorotubu Districts were trained to strengthen the capacity of communities, to conduct household waste audit and to develop innovative management solutions.

Australian scientists have trained a satellite to recognise the signature of plastic on a beach from an orbit of over 600km. The new technology will allow identification of beaches covered in 5-10% plastic. Some of the beaches in Fiji will be glowing from space for sure.🎇🎇

POLYP members braved the heavy rain in Suva last Saturday to assist the EcoGuardians team and the Embassy of Malaysia in cleaning up the Bilo Battery Historical Site. Community outreach lies at the heart of what POLYP seeks to do.

POLYP breakup session for the year 2024 was filled with colour, laughs and a little bit of happy juice. So good to see our hardworking volunteers with pizza and presents in hand rather than the usual...trash. Looking forward to what 2025 has in store.

The Navua Coastal Cleanup was nothing short of a success with 50 participants collecting 310 kg. The team also conducted trash audits using the Sustainable Coasts methods as well as brand audits using the #BreakFreeFromPlastic methods. The kids were kept busy with the litter art project.

This was a World Oceans Day and World Environment Day event with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and partners. Over 1.5 tonnes of coastal litter was collected and sorted into 5 discrete categories—again, plastics had the strongest showing.

The Veivueti Kids Ocean Conference was a blast, and POLYP had a great time engaging with school children and supporting the next generation of ocean advocates. Waste literacy matters!
