I feel fortunate that I moved to San Francisco 15 years ago and caught the very tail end of tech being weird and a bit nerdy. Every startup in 2010 still had a few developers with ponytails, desks covered with hand-painted Dragon Quest figurines, a CTO who did 80 hours of

The real reason Democrats can't compete for 60 Senate seats isn't just the "structural bias of the Senate". It's because ticket splitting collapsed over the last decade. Using our WAR models, we can show how the impact of candidate quality has plummeted. split-ticket.org/2025/06/07/the…

Zohran Mamdani brought the heat on Tuesday, and torched Andrew Cuomo's bid to come back from disgrace. He's likely to become the next mayor of New York City thanks to fervent support from progressive hotbeds in Brooklyn and Queens blazing through the city's geographic center.

NEW for the Washington Post: For years, America’s left was the butt of a bad joke, losing with minority voters across the board. Until now. Here’s how Zohran Mamdani smashed the left’s ceiling in New York (🎁 link). wapo.st/441Y4yl

It's not just Zohran Mamdani in New York. Democrats are having a big moment with young voters again. Here's a recent FL special. Enthusiasm among 18-30 year olds is off the charts for those registered as Dems, but not for young Republicans.

Really great teaming up with Armin Thomas on this one. If Republicans hope to retain political power, they'll need to hold a fracturing 2024 coalition together. And the "newcomers" who pushed Trump over the top (young voters, Latinos) don't seem to be conservative stalwarts...

🗺️I've mapped the 2025 🇩🇪 federal elections, marked by the defeat of SPD, Greens and FDP, an increase of the right and far right, and the comeback of Die Linke. East-west divides, religious traditions and gaps between social groups intertwine in the geography of the vote. ⬇️⬇️

This is the first time I've seen "aerospace republic" on Twitter. I think it's the first time this term has ever been used, at least on this website. It's fitting. buying early on this

1969 New York City mayoral election! It's here! 4 years after Lindsay beat Buckley, Lindsay lost the GOP primary - but ran on the Liberal line in the general. He beat John Marchi, the Staten Island GOP state senator, and Mario Procaccino, an anti-crime conservative Democrat.

Baseline is that Democrats are likely to lose 3 seats and may lose a fourth (Gonzalez) — but they *should* hold Cuellar's (Trump +7 -> Trump +10). (TX-34, which Gonzalez won by 2.6%, goes from Trump +4 to Trump +10, but 2026 is also likely to be 6-8 points bluer than 2024 was)

For our last piece with Washington Post Opinions, we take a look at how the Democratic Party’s base has changed since 2016 — and in area after area, the party’s voters have become more liberal across the board, even though its leadership has not always agreed. wapo.st/4mu6AMR

Conscientiousness is especially critical in the modern world. Life today is full of temptations. From hyper-engaging digital media to online gambling, the ability to ignore it all and put long-term wellbeing ahead of short-term kicks becomes a superpower.
