How do you deal with real, actual Nazis? Noah Smith 🐇🇺🇸🇺🇦🇹🇼 is my favourite Substack writer. Had to share his latest. I'm reading the part where Tucker Carlson is giving oxygen to modern Nazis. Yes, the same Carlson who shared a stage with Danielle Smith noahpinion.blog/p/how-do-you-d…

The flat-out lie of “Ottawa’s resistance” when the 🇨🇦 govt literally bought & paid for the pipeline that made this growth possible

Yes, you also need to manage peak (e.g by shifting charging behaviour to off-peak, which can be achieved via rate design) and local distribution congestion (also possible to address through hard and soft solutions), but the cries of “we won’t have enough power” are overwrought.

Electric cars aren't just for show, they're for driving💪 🔵Electric cars are driven more miles than ICE cars. Makes sense as electricity cheaper than petrol🤷‍♂️ 🔵They are favoured by taxi/ubers, which do more miles 🔵EVs have the most automation driving (like in Teslas), and

We are so used to thinking that materials are consumed in generation, that we fixate on them. I've been in electronics for 30+ yrs. Every time there's a material issue in an electronics supply chain, a replacement / work around is found . . Btw,they can also be recycled.

Good morning with good news: Solar module price falls to record low of $0.096/W, says BNEF's 3Q 2024 Global Solar Market Report! Record low prices fuel record high global installations in 2024. BNEF reports 592 GW will be installed in 2024, up 33% from then record high 2023!

Only a few months ago, oil bulls were lauding OPEC as "realistic" and criticizing the IEA for "politicized" oil demand forecasts. That included Danielle Smith and Brian Jean. Oops. Alberta's "oil and gas forever" narrative is failing. bloomberg.com/news/newslette…

I can still remember as a kid complaining about getting vaccinations to my mum. So, after visiting my dad's grave in the cemetery one afternoon, she showed me all the tombstone's of the babies & young children who died from diseases before vaccines were available, it changed /1

Why does BNEF have a lower view of total vehicle fleet size outlook vs OPEC, Exxon etc? (BNEF: 1.6 billion cars on the road in 2040 vs. ~2 billion) Shared mobility is part of it, so is demographics. Working age population in China is dropping fast, urbanization surging in India

Good morning with good news: US utility-scale battery storage nearly doubles to 37.5 GW by June 2025 from 20.7 GW! From July 2024 to June 2025, US will add 17.5 GW; twice 8.9GW added in prior 12 months! EIA didn't state GWh but ~4 hrs/GW is now typical. eia.gov/electricity/mo…

Who are the real customers for Alberta's oil? The automakers. They decide which fuel propels their products. And they've chosen electricity. When a "disruptive innovation" comes for your business model, doesn't matter how profitable you are today. Tomorrow you are bankrupt.

One can't help but wonder how many extreme right "media" sites in Alberta are funded by similar sources? The ones that seem to have no trouble getting interviews with Premier Danielle Smith et al. I've always wondered. Maybe we'll get answers. cbc.ca/news/investiga…

My take: short-term noise doesn't change long-term S-curve trajectories. Plenty of tasty insights into the US EV market from US Energy Information Administration. U.S. share of electric and hybrid vehicle sales increased in the second quarter of 2024 energi.media/news/u-s-share…

Afternoon coffee at the 356 Cafe, named after the Porsche car, one of which sits inside. Nice view despite the inferior German engineering lurking in the background.
