Comparison of 6 handhelds by 35 #POCUS experts. Best image quality: Vscan Air for RUQ. Mindray for cardiac. Lumify for superficial. No handheld #1 but Vscan Air preferred. Top 5 features: image quality, ease of use, portability, probe size, battery life. rdcu.be/dVRmZ

(1/x) Treating patients who are fluid responsive with IV fluids is kind of like using a credit card 💳 It definitely works (in the short term), but be careful. The debt that accumulates eventually needs to be paid off. A 🧵 #medtwitter #foamed

This is your daily reminder to #POCUS the IVC in two planes! The short-axis view (found by rotating your probe 90 degrees) can be so helpful in those borderline cases. Example 1: is the long-axis IVC plethoric? Hard to tell, but it appears that way 🤔

The lineup is super exciting this year, with a huge focus on hemodynamics and all things venous congestion 🩸(and of course, #POCUS!) The one and only Philippe Rola has put together an incredible lineup on the R side. The 4-quadrant interface paradigm that had been teased on

1/ #POCUS exam of both the internal jugular vein (the POCUS JVP 🤩) and the IVC can be used to estimate central venous pressure ✅ ⁉️ BUT - what happens when these two scans are discordant?? 🫢 A quick #tweetorial 🧵on interpreting contradictory IVC and JVP results

53 year old male admitted due to shortness of breath. Known case of CKD but not yet on dialysis, with grade 3 bipedal edema. BUT, patient was still hooked to IV fluids (PNSS) at 40 cc per hr, but was given furosemide 40 mg tiv q8H?? This is NOT uncommon practice in my area.

A common phrase often shared with ICU interns is, “You have to swell to get well, and pee to get free.” While catchy, it doesn’t align with physiology. Fluid overload is harmful for critically ill patients and can be prevented through individualized fluid administration.
