How did a tiny town in rural Japan double its birth rate between 2005 and 2019? I've written about how the small community of Nagi embraced pro-child policies and created a positive culture of parenting. boomcampaign.org/p/nagi-japans-…

This is one of the wildest things I have EVER learned: Crispr and Cas9 allow us to genetically edit something – say a mosquito – with a gene they will pass on, but ONLY for two, or three, or four generations. A daisy chain edit. Science fiction. worksinprogress.co/issue/the-ultr…

No. Stacking shelves or sitting on a checkout is different from working in a warehouse or distribution centre. They're not equal roles so firms shouldn't be forced to pay equal wages.

This is one of the main reasons why I first got involved in housing. It was about the most breathtakingly and needlessly broken thing I had ever seen. And for the first time we show data proving how bad the UK housing position is against other countries: x.com/yimbyalliance/…

I'll be speaking about reproductive technologies and the importance of culture on 8th October in London, at an event on birth rates, that Phoebe Arslanagić-Little was very kind to invite me to. Moderated by Inaya Folarin Iman. w/ Stephen Kellat and Aveek Bhattacharya

I know I've reposted this before, but love to see left/right collaboration on making having children in the UK easier/less catastrophically expensive for parents. highly recommend this event.

I have to say that my experience of being pregnant and using the tube has been very positive! 95% of the time, I am very quickly offered a seat and people take care not to jostle or bump into me, including during rush hour.

.Aveek Bhattacharya making a clear case for why the birth rate challenge should be a focus across the left-right divide. Raising birth rates is about making sure we have the families we want, a strong economy & sustaining the public services we all care about. politicshome.com/thehouse/artic…

⚡️ No matter how hard you look, you won’t find a low-energy, rich country anywhere on Earth. Rising living standards have always required access to abundant energy – and in my latest @tenthinktank paper, I explain how new nuclear reactors can boost our economy. Thread…! 🧵

New campaign the Dad Shift are calling for better-paid, longer statutory paternity leave. They are absolutely right that the current system needs change. A mere 2 weeks at £185 a week is not good enough. Follow the Dad Shift's work here: action.thedadshift.org/a/open-letter?…

In earlier Star Trek series, Starfleet is portrayed as a good & noble institution. But in modern Star Trek, Starfleet is often compromised & unethical: imposing unjust rules, condoning genocide. Can't we have at least one fictional utopian bureaucracy? thebulwark.com/p/are-we-all-t…
