Two questions: 1) Is this "include Aadhar" an actual order or a mere suggestion (like last time) that the EC may or may not heed; 2) What does including Aadhar do at this stage, when the draft roll has already been prepared? What's the point of this charade?

POTA, like its predecessor TADA, had extremely low conviction rates, at less than 1%. It became a tool for destroying lives of young Muslim men picked up on fictitious charges. No wonder he misses POTA so much. UAPA, with a conviction rate of less than 3% should be scrapped too

And these are not even Bengali speakers, they are from UP. The 'Bangladeshi' bogey can be used against any Muslim. Any random group of men with nothing better to do can raid a Muslim home along with cops and demand to see proof of citizenship. Amrit Kaal just keeps getting better

COMMENT | By banking on the courts to make #BiharSIR go away instead of building ground resistance, the opposition has only helped validate #Bihar’s controversial electoral roll revision. Debasish Roy Chowdhury writes. frontline.thehindu.com/politics/supre…

What did the Supreme Court case against SIR achieve? Precisely nothing. With SC preferring the path of least resistance, only political resistance on ground can work, writes Debasish Roy Chowdhury, author of 'To Kill a Democracy' Debasish Roy Chowdhury frontline.thehindu.com/politics/supre…

As I was saying... India has been scripting a slow-motion detente with China precisely in anticipation of a day like this #TrumpTariffs share.google/kLBXdXW6UaXLfM…

"A comprehensive revision like SIR should have added 25 lakh voters. Instead, it reduced the roll by 69 lakh. Oddly, not one case of addition has been reported. If repeated nationally, 9 crore Indians may be disenfranchised"

COMMENT | Not only has the opposition gained nothing from banking on the Supreme Court to make the #BiharSIR go away rather than building up its own resistance on the ground, it may have made matters worse. Debasish Roy Chowdhury writes. frontline.thehindu.com/politics/supre…

With the Supreme Court already indicating it is not opposed to the process, what happens now if EC announces an SIR for Bengal? What will be the recourse for non-BJP parties there now that they have exhausted the SC option - and gained nothing out of it? frontline.thehindu.com/politics/supre…
