One of my favourite podcasts to date - all about libraries. Honoured to be a teacher-librarian and offer a space for all. And yes, there is a shelf for student self published works a la Brautigan @BCTLA Marilyn Lunde Leyton Schnellert WKTEP thisamericanlife.org/664/the-room-o…

What’s involved here isn’t just a shift in how you perceive a child’s behaviour. 🙇🏻 A child responds intuitively to the change that he senses in you. Read my latest The MEHRIT Centre blog, See a Child Differently and You’ll See a Different Child here: buff.ly/2GzWIR6

Grades are not only dehumanizing, they are statistically inaccurate. Any teacher who hums and haws about **bumping up** a grade from 77 to 80(for cosmetic purposes) doesn't realize there must be at least a 10% **error** to issue that grade in the first place.

It's painfully obvious, I know—but it should *never* come down to recess versus academics. This piece is part of a research-based animation series I've been editing for edutopia. More coming soon! #playmatters

Looking forward 2 days of elementary SD20 basketball tournaments ... that said: there will be winners, there will be losers, there will be a first place and a last place, there will be no participation ribbons, there will be a focus on fun, camaraderie... and great basketball

Don’ ask kids what they want to be urges ⁦Adam Grant⁩ “Instead, invite them to think about what kind of person they want to be — and about all the different things they might want to do.” I would also ask what are they curious about. nytimes.com/2019/04/01/sma… via @NYTimes

Gillian Judson, PhD A1: we use both formative and summative assessment outdoors. An example of summative assessment might be a tour of our garden for a guest. Can the student correctly identify plants and tell the story of our garden? #atasses

Next time you get agitated because you aren’t growing/healing fast enough remember that every day does not need to be a step forward for it to be a success. Sometimes you need to slow things down to integrate new lessons and gather your energy. Rest is required on a long journey.

When you take the pressure off, drop the unforgiving timelines, and let go of the attachment to rushing to the finish line — this is when the real flourishing begins. The biggest steps forward happen when you focus on the small daily wins and allow the rest to unfold organically.
