ETOH, the 5th Cir. issued an unpublished opinion holding that a judge's private, monetary relationship with a private ankle-monitoring company does not "create an unconstitutional risk of judicial bias." 1/







In Institute for Justice case Bonin v. Meade, the 5th Cir.'s unpublished opinion downplays a judge's cozy relationship with a private ankle-monitor company. Despite the judge's ties to the company, insistence on its use, and threats of jail for unpaid bills, the 5th Cir. found no "risk of bias."








Weekend Update: Last week, Institute for Justice filed our brief in the 10th Cir. case Mendenhall v. Denver. We seek to overturn the Supreme Court’s thoughtless decision in Jones v. US, which deleted the Fourth Amendment’s requirement of an “Oath of affirmation” for a warrant. 1/
