Constantly pained by the low quality of commentary on UK food & farming based on little/no grasp of the key data/concepts. So I thought I’d put together a 🧵 of some useful resources to try to spread a little enlightenment… Please share… 1/

Interesting byproduct of my makeshift Christmas tree (it was a wind damaged holly branch from the hedge) is that the birds prefer their feeder in it. Previously on a more traditional post it offers them better protection from the resident sparrow hawk!

Beautiful crisp morning to be chopping wood from our plot for our #woodfiredpizza oven. Good to be producing something when the raised beds look as inhospitable as they currently do!

A disaster in real-time is occurring in our fruit sector (among others) - its root cause is unfair prices being paid by supermarkets. We’ve the 3rd cheapest food in the world, yet see huge retail profits. Who pays? The farmer & the environment.

From the apple growing county of Worcestershire comes a Georgian dish - Malvern Pudding. This is a caramelised sugar topped apple pudding with a creamy custard filling flavoured with cinnamon. In 2010 was said to be one of the ten most "threatened puddings". #FolkloreSunday

Always a warm welcome at our venue along with floral displays from our plot. At this time of year we live using the dried flower heads of plants like teasel along with early wild flowing plants like gorse and flowering currant. pjtaste.co.uk/meeting-room

Blossom on this pear tree is profuse, but too early to get excited about eventual fruit production as we are so dependant on favourable weather. Frosts and cold and wet conditions preventing pollination all may yet come into play!

Harvesting this morning in our forest garden: Blenheim Orange Apples. Large apples which can be used for both cooking and eating. Blenheim Orange makes for a very vigorous tree - ladders were involved! Recipe - Pork and Apple Pate: shorturl.at/r41iJ
