🚨 Besides the #MigrationPact , European Parliament also adopted its position on rules to protect victims. This improves crime reporting for migrant victims but fails to fully protect them from immigration enforcement.
This vote is even more important as the Pact ushers in more abuses.
Yesterday's vote on the #MigrationPact ushers in even more violence against people seeking safety and opportunity in Europe. But it won't silence the resistance of all those who oppose its cruelty and work for a welcoming Europe for all.
Press release: picum.org/blog/european-…
The #MigrationPact is now set to become law.
But as human rights people, we’ll continue to fight its implementation and the violence it carries with it. And we'll continue to work for a welcoming Europe for all.
This is Mamadou Kouassi, the scriptwriter for 'Io Capitano' who inspired the story and lived through the journey himself, asking on behalf of the whole film crew that MEPs reject this #MigrationPact . ❤️
🚨 Final vote happening today in European Parliament. Our collective message is clear: vote down this #MigrationPact .
The #MigrationPact will not only make #externalisation of migration & border control a routine practice, but also a legal obligation.
If it comes into effect, human rights abuses in & by the #EU will only increase.

We were some 80 human rights organisations only a couple of months ago. Many more additions on, same message: MEPs must reject this #MigrationPact and the violence it entails.

💢At least 117 people faced criminal charges for helping migrants in 2023
‼️'Current trends are likely to worsen as EU proposals to fight migrant smuggling fail to include a binding exemption of humanitarian acts from potential criminalisation.' Platform for Undocumented Migrants (PICUM)
Criminalisation of #migration has been used by European governments to intimidate humanitarians and make us think twice before supporting #refugees and report violations of rights.
In #Greece , it has definitely worked a #gagrule
I look forward to reading this Platform for Undocumented Migrants (PICUM) report.
