Last week, CEJA delegates gathered for a wonderful seminar hosted by FJA and LLJ (CEJA members from Wallonia and Luxembourg). It brought together 40 young farmers from across Europe for study visits, but also for the crucial finalisation of CEJA’s position on the CAP post-2027.

Session 1️⃣ : Young farmers at the core of the future CAP. A key message from Carlo: “I would love that success stories can be the rule and not the exception”. 💬Discussions on generational renewal instruments and the ring-fencing for young farmers instruments.

Session 2️⃣ “Direct payments: who needs it the most?” Sharing of experience by Vytenis Grimas, young farmer from Lithuania. 💬Dynamic panel discussion on key debates of the CAP: “active farmer”, “capping”, “targeting”…. Also broadened to what is outside of direct payments

Session 3️⃣ “Incentivising environmental & climate action in the post-Green Deal era” Insights on dealing with conditionality and the motivation (or not) to fulfil ecoschemes in Flanders - by Justine Poppe, young dairy farmer. A panel to discuss: incentives, conditionality…⬇️

Session 4️⃣ - The rural competitiveness & inclusion agenda. 🎤Experience on the use of LEADER, from Ireland with Josephine O’Neill. 💬Panel questioning the structure of the upcoming rural development policies, and the elephant in the room: what will the CAP’s 2nd pillar become?
