Ex-vivo pig lung optimisation for NTHi underway 🐷

May have spent too long with the pig lung model recently that I find myself drawn to pig things 👀 bought this in a charity recently and it fits my plant perfectly 🐷

Day 1 of our ex-vivo pig lung model workshop! 🐷 We’ve been dissecting both bronchiole and alveolar sections ✂️

A fantastic two days training colleagues old and new from 8 UK/Irish universities, UK Health Security Agency and a CRO to set up our ex vivo model of biofilm infection in cystic fibrosis lungs, and discussing collaborative projects and proposals.

Here is the final stage of dissection of the pig lung bronchioles! 🐷 We primarily use these sections in conjunction with synthetic cystic fibrosis sputum media to mimic bacterial lung infection in people with cystic fibrosis

I really enjoyed the #NBICShowcase yesterday! I loved hearing about everyone’s biofilm research and I got to do a lot of networking. The frequent small breaks were so useful and allowed a mental reset between sessions so I could properly appreciate everyone’s work. National Biofilms Innovation Centre (NBIC)
