#OnThisDay 1918 the Royal Navy Grand Fleet deployed in full fighting array for the last time in wartime to counter a German sortie in the North Sea. Admiral Beatty sailed with 193 ships including: 31 battleships, 4 battle cruisers, 24 light cruisers & 85 destroyers.

#OnThisDay 1789 Lt Fletcher Christian led a mutiny on HMS BOUNTY, casting Lt William Bligh, the Captain, and 19 loyal men adrift and fled to settle in #pitcairn Bligh made an epic 3500 mile voyage in an open boat to #timor and set about getting home to alert Royal Navy

On this day in 1941 – The Bismarck, pride of the Kriegsmarine, was sunk. Crippled by air attack from the carriers Ark Royal and Victorious, she was sunk by gunfire by units of the Home Fleet. Out of her crew of over 2,200 men, only 114 survived. #WW2 #GermanNavy #RoyalNavy
