This was my flight! I napped through the entire incident (whoops) but landed without issue, may have been faulty sensor but definitely awoke to a very tense plane.

And a few shots of Arctic beaver dams on the ground. Obviously there are no trees on the tundra, but they're easily making do with shrubby willow stems and mud. We saw many dams that measured >100m. Castorid ingenuity never ceases to amaze.

One of the goliaths of the deep - a giant amphipod (Cystisoma sp). We get these fairly regular in the deeper tows. The entire head of these amphipod is comprised of giant eyes. Trawled from the Gulf of Mexico, August 2016.

I picked up some Turkey Oak leaves yesterday. It wasn't until I got home that I realised they reminded me of a rain drenched bird of prey. So here's my Golden Eagle. #CompostableAutumnArt made entirely from leaves and seeds. Iolo Williams RSPB

This was a bucket list encounter in Monteverde, Costa Rica this week. Can you spot it from the first image? It’s one of the most remarkable disguises in all of nature, the moss mimic stick insect.

These are moths trying to mate with a spider! As you can guess, not a good idea for a moth to do... so why do they do it? The spider has a (smelly) trick
