The first videos of the #asteroid #C0WEPC5 entry in #Russia are coming out on Telegram Messenger . It appears to be very similar to previous asteroid entires (2022 WJ, 2023 CX1, 2024 BX1). Lots of fragments at the end, it probably dropped some rocks in a remote forested area.

Airwave from the impact of 2024 XA1 detected at CTBTO station I45. Based on the period of the signal the source energy is about 0.02 kT TNT. With entry speed of 15.5 km/s this corresponds to an object with mass of 700 kilograms and diameter of about 0.75-1 m. #2024XA1

The Geminid meteor shower is currently showing rates approaching one every two minutes: shorturl.at/5QJSd Telescopically tracked Geminids by the @westernu Canadian Automated Meteor Observatory, show fragmentation characteristics of the shower.#Geminids2024

This is the 1st time the sound of a meteorite impact has been heard! Sound up. From Prince Edward Island, Canada. cbc.ca/news/canada/pr…

Asteroid 2024 YR4 watch: a few new observations have pushed the December 22, 2032 impact odds up very slightly to 1.7%. That’s still a 98.3% chance of a miss. Good thing planetary defenders are keeping an eye on it though, right?

Asteroid Institute, a program of B612 has taken the orbit and uncertainty of asteroid 2024YR4, sampled 10K trajectories from the current uncertainty, and propagated them forward. 2.3% of those hit the Earth on Dec.22, 2032. Here is where they hit.

Here are 70 clones of #asteroid 2024 YR4 that do hit Earth, highlighting the impact risk corridor. There are some big cities along that line: #Bogota, #Lagos, #Mumbai.

Starlink-1066 re-entry on Sep 23 at 0605 UT imaged by satellite tracking cameras of a joint #Westernu and #DRDC project. Breakup is shown over heights 65 – 60 km. Any surviving debris likely landed in parts of NE Sask, N Man or Ontario. Analysis by Denis Vida. #starlink
