Finished reading, 'Sedated: How Modern Capitalism Created our Mental Health Crisis' by Dr James Davies (PhD) 💭. It is without a doubt the best book I've read about public health. I can't recommend it enough.
Despite decades of research & huge financial investment, "not a single gene has been found that can be causally linked to schizophrenia". Furthermore, "the research has produced no improvements in treatments." Have we reached an ideological dead end? sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Excellent, important piece by my friend Dr James Davies (PhD) 💭 on clarifying left vs. right wing critiques of overmedicalization of mental health. For the right, it’s about getting suffering people off state support; for the left, dismantling structures of capitalism that make us unwell.
All the #PTMF psychologist authors have worked in teams in frontline services with ‘severe MI’ - in Lucy Johnstone’s case, on 9 different inpatient wards & a number of CMHTs over several decades. 2 of the main authors were diagnosed with ‘severe MI’ themselves. Dr Janaway
