Loretta was a supremely talented actor. She deserved all her 10 EMMY nominations and her 2 wins. But more than acting her part, she created it. She worked hard In showing the writing staff how they could turn the character from a one joke sexist stereotype into a real person --

It is somewhat ironic that people swiftly latched on to Finish designer Eero Aarnio's Ball Chair and connected it to 60s 'pop' or the 'space age'. While its final design was in the 60s, its origins lie in the mid-50s when Aarnio was applying to Institute of Industrial Arts. 1/2

Aarnio was asked to draw a person sitting in a chair as part of an entrance test. Feeling unable to sketch a human figure, he painted a (hidden) person reading a newspaper in a curved shape chair. The practical origins of a 'futuristic' design...

So many of us are struggling to stay positive right now. But you don’t have to fix everything, just start small. Sow love where you are. Help one person, care for one thing. 🌱 If enough of us plant it, maybe we’ll grow a more beautiful world. ❤️

TUW is very sad to announce that Eric Mival, music editor on The Prisoner sadly passed away yesterday. Rick Davy writes: "Incredibly sad news. As well as being integral to the success of the series he was also a lovely and kind hearted person." (full tribute on TUW's facebook).

Getting ready for filming in the Italian Library in Warwick Castle this morning - a short piece introducing the BBC4 repeat of Bryan Magee’s 1987 series The Great Philosophers. My brilliant and lovely PhD supervisor, Myles Burnyeat, was the interviewee on Plato.

1946. Mary Morris next to the Peter Pan statue in Kensington Gardens. She was preparing to play the lead role in JM Barrie's play at the Scala Theatre. Twenty years later, her appearance in The Prisoner would offer a deferential nod to her critically-acclaimed stage performance.

Sorry to hear that actor John Woodvine has passed away. A superb career on stage with the RSC and on screen. A semi-regular guest in ITC's Danger Man and The Avengers in the 60s and a notable presence in the outstanding 80s drama Edge of Darkness. Continued acting into his 90s.
