Relevant to Islanders - the federal government is allocating $13.7 million over two years, starting in 2024-25, to Transport Canada to negotiate a continued toll freeze on the Confederation Bridge in 2025 and 2026.

We tax housing construction like we tax cigarettes, and we wonder why we’re getting less of it.

Governments can fix this.

A natural basic income experiment began in the mid-1990s and how the kids, now in their 30s, are doing is incredible. As adults, they have fewer drug problems and their average IQ is higher. By age 26, the benefits of the UBI exceeded its cost by 3-to-1.

In response to Dennis King giving private LTC operators millions, Peter Bevan-Baker called for more transparency. 'The $25 million of Islanders' money is all being shoveled into a dark pit where none of us can see how it is actually being spent.' cbc.ca/news/canada/pr…

During question period, Peter Bevan-Baker said a rental registry, which would provide tenants with information on the rent paid by previous tenants in the same unit, was the “only way to control this sort of unlawful activity.”

👇 new article, 'Money as Medicine' by Eric Reinhart in the NEJM — the world's most influential medical journal — is about Universal Basic Income as essential health policy. 80-90% of health outcomes depend on economic determinants. UBI is preventive.

I work with awesome nurses and I’m grateful for their skills. Emerg is a *hard* place to be a nurse, especially these days. Nursing clinical gestalt is not just valuable, it’s a hard skill to build and critical to safety in the ED & lost when experienced emerg nurses leave.

Interesting regional forecasts here. The Parliamentary Budget Officer estimates that PEI will see its total number of households increase by 13,000 by 2030.

To keep up with growth, that means the Island will need to see its housing stock increase by a net 1,860 units per year.

'Peter Bevan-Baker went on to say the new tenants in the disputed unit were paying a rent 66 per cent higher than the previous tenants. The maximum allowable by law, and only then with special approval from IRAC, is supposed to be six per cent.' cbc.ca/news/canada/pr…

Our PEI health care system is increasingly overwhelmed. Island doctors and nurse practitioners spend an estimated 8000 hours of clinical time every year writing sick notes. This is time better spent providing health care. That's why Matt MacFarlane is proposing this change

This motion from Green MLA Matt MacFarlane was just voted down by the PC government in the PEI Legislature. It calls on government to review healthcare recruitment practices, including incorporating feedback from people who have tried to be recruited to share their experiences.
