I packed-up a full-text paper scraper, vector database, and LLM into a CLI to answer questions from only highly-cited peer-reviewed papers. Feels unreal to be able instantly get answers by an LLM "reading" dozens of papers. 1/2

The satellites of our Milky Way and MW-like galaxies have been studied extensively, in particular, their star formation and quenching. We ask: how's the quenching of large puffy satellites? Surprisingly, we find that quenching is not tied to being puffy. arxiv.org/abs/2302.14108

There was a thread on here last week where two Turing award winners are jovially promoting the idea that mathematical statistics is better at determining causation than common sense. 1/10

The Ogallala aquifer is the largest underground water source in North America, giving life to ~ 30% of all crop and animal production in the US The aquifer’s water supply has dropped by as much as 75% and is on pace to dry up in the next 70 years.

I've been thinking about sustainability of scientific open source software more in the last few months. Something that has become clear to me is that having a maintainer team is not a side effect of a successful project, but (*effectively) a requirement for one.

Do you know what your watershed did last summer? Laura Condon does and even gave an amazing talk about it at SXSW at the University of Arizona Wonder House! Fortunately for those of us who couldn’t be there, it’s recorded: youtube.com/watch?v=weTDXE…

Excited to hear my paper co-led with Peter Melchior (@[email protected]) submitted to the ML4Astro workshop at ICML2023 was given a talk. “Spotting Hallucinations in Inverse Problems with Data-Driven Priors”. Paper (out soon) discusses quantifying uncertainty in prior informed image generations.
