Latest NHC forecast weakens Hurricane Calvin to a remnant low east of the Big Island meaning a major wind threat is not likely. Rains and Surf still expected Tuesday night - Wednesday. The weakening mainly due to cooler waters plus a touch of wind shear and drier air.

Tropical Storm Calvin has weakened with winds down to 50 mph sustained with gusts to 60 mph. Calvin is 140 miles South of Hilo, 305 miles SE of Honolulu.  Moving west at 20 mph. The storm will pass south of the Big Island before sunrise bringing 4-8 inches of rain to some spots.

Tropical Storm Hone is closing in on the Big Island bringing a threat of flooding rains, strong winds and dangerous surf.  Hone will pass south of the Big Island late Saturday -Sunday.  Rains could begin as early as Saturday am but will intensify Saturday night into Sunday am.

Hurricane Hone lifts away from the Big Island as rains and winds begin to affect neighboring islands. Expect a wet and windy afternoon.  Power outages have already started in many spots. More power outages are expected as strong winds could knock down trees and power lines.

A some what rare Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued for Oahu and Maui County (including Lanai and Molokai). Strong winds of 58 mph + along with dangerous lightning possible. Watch expires at 6 pm but may be extended.
