Finally got into the OR on my 9th day of residency. Put in my first chest tube and got some much needed grounding 😎

Today was the best day of residency by far. I went to the OR for 3 cases and then I went out with my team (fellow included) for dinner and ping pong. Not to mention, I’m off tomorrow. Couldn’t have asked for a better day.

Today was rough but I did have a patient’s parent come up to me in the cafeteria and say “Hey Dr. Manns. I just wanted to let you know that you did my daughters trach about a week ago and today I’m in here buying her lunch. Thank you” So maybe today was a little less rough🥹

Last night was a tough shift but I got to spend an hour debriding one of the coolest patients. We laughed and joked the whole time. He really made my night. Also, I’ll never get enough of the “doc, you cool as hell” compliments lol

The hardest part about residency for me, by far, is being away from my family. I got to come home today, wanted to cry when I saw my mom and lit up like a kid in a candy store when I saw my dad. Two months without seeing them was too long.

Hands down the reason why I made it through this rotation! Quad call (urology, burn, face and hand) ✅ 2 down, 58 to go

This past weekend we had our first LGBTQIA+ gathering. The first of many. We’re grateful for mentors, allies, and friends! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
