Replicating jetties at our location is not feasible, but the results are compelling and warrant further investigation into the impacts of similar structures on turtle populations.
Reef Fish Ecology Australian Institute of Marine Science Michele Thums UWA Research Parks and Wildlife Service, Western Australia Pendoley_turtle Our jetty was 70 m whereas commercial jetties in the NW can be up to 3 km and act as defacto marine reserves because fishing is prohibited. They are also illuminated, which attracts hatchlings. The problem is likely to be replicated and magnified at these sites.
