I'll be starting off my talk in Portlaoise library tmw evening (7pm Aug 7) with the attempt to sell the Caldbeck estate in May 1904 & subsequent ructions - the owner Capt. E H Caldbeck, incidentally, was a Boer war veteran - having served with the 19th Hussars.

Picked up these two in the Oxfam books on Parliament street yesterday. The Bancroft on the right is a rare account of the Indian Army from the “other ranks”-he served in the Anglo-Sikh wars in mid-1800s. Tipperary men of course were prominent in the events covered in both books.
