Each time I walk in Padley Gorge, though I tell myself sternly, "Stay away from the bridge, walk past the bridge, do NOT photograph the bridge" - I can't resist it. And on this misty, shining morning, with the early light on the midsummer green, it looked pretty darned perfect.

The leaves soften, the bracken rusts, the sunrise ticks later. The change seems to happen imperceptibly, but walk along a lane untrodden for a while, and there it is. The air is thicker, as if Nature is holding her breath and watching the slow fade of green to gold alongside you.

So many #peakdistrict villages feel removed from the loud rush of the 21st Century. On this misty morning, the first touches of gold in the trees and the lanes silent, it felt as if I'd tumbled back a hundred years when I turned the corner in Ashford-in-the-Water.

Such a quiet time of year, this teetering between summer and autumn. The trees are streaked with gold in the green, the air is thickening, the birds pausing before their journeys. As I stood here, the only movement was the bubbling water and the occasional leaf spiralling down.

Away from the politics and nonsense that fills Twitter, here’s a little peace from the storybook lanes of Milldale. The ancient stones of Viator's Bridge have allowed safe passage across the River Dove here since medieval times. #PeakDistrict

The final wash of purple on the #peakdistrict moors is now fading. The heather lasts for such a short time, but that's why it's so anticipated, so appreciated, and then so missed. Happily the gates stay, and the weather-beaten trees, and the twisty paths into the sunset.

Doesn't September have the most perfect mornings?! Hushed and still, with low mists hugging the rivers and the treetops just turning gold where the sun has lingered longest. It feels as if Nature is gathering her breath now after the rush of Summer and before the blaze of Autumn.

Well, this is a cracker of a book from ⁦peaklass⁩ I’ve always enjoyed her tweets on here as she has a real eye for light and composition and it’s lovely to have a wider collection of her photos through the seasons, along with her heartfelt text.
