English as a Second Language presenters Mrs. Dever and Mrs. Mier stress the importance of using visual aides to support EL students. #penndelcoproud Penn-Delco Professional Learning Community
Penn-Delco Professional Learning Community Penn-Delco SD A2: @Georgia_Polites shared that West Chester Area SD has a great parent database where teachers can post anything they need/volunteer opportunities & any parent can sign up across grade levels to help out. I'd love to try this next year Parkside Elementary #PDSDEdChat
Penn-Delco Professional Learning Community I've always found that taking an active interest in the home lives of students is imperative to really connecting with parents/families. Actively reaching out to parents via ClassDojo & Twitter with frequent updates on their student & the class as a whole is huge! #PDSDEdChat
Our grade 1 teachers have mystery readers come into their classes. I think it’s an amazing way to get our students/parents excited for reading. Future: A twitter convo with parents throughout the day, with the students posting pictures or info of what we are doing. #PDSDEdChat x.com/pdsd_plc/statu…
Penn-Delco Professional Learning Community A4: I know childcare needs often comes up in my research on #parentinvolvement I've had mystery readers bring younger siblings with them and it hasn't been in issue at all, but definitely something to consider in the future #PDSDEdChat
Penn-Delco Professional Learning Community A4: Outreach for various Language Learners besides conferences. A parent lending library on current topics. Continued assistance and resources for parents & guardians that want to get their clearances. #PDSDEdChat
Penn-Delco Professional Learning Community Utilize technology! The parents of our students are just as busy as teachers. Using apps to communicate & interact with parents will increase their involvement without making it a hassle for them. Twitter, ClassDojo, YouTube and @Flipgrid are easy, & FUN to use! #PDSDEdChat
Penn-Delco Professional Learning Community I also think 5th graders could volunteer within our classrooms to read to or play a game with younger siblings if a parent wanted to do an activity with the class #futureideas
@103Owls Penn-Delco Professional Learning Community I agree! I’m struggling to share info with families speaking English as a second language. Same issue when I conduct the youth orchestra, too. What translation resources can we find? Google translate has worked for convo. #PDSDEdChat
A4:There are more & more opportunities to contribute and be part of the classrm live and asynchronously with tech. A phone has become a convenient and powerful tool to connect with others. Shorts clips, pics, & tweets added by parents make learning a community endeavor#PDSDEdChat x.com/PDSD_PLC/statu…
Penn-Delco Professional Learning Community Q4: Be publically and personally thankful to parent volunteers. Provide a platform for parents to connect with each other. I think parents still ascribe to a “safety in numbers” when it comes to going outside of their comfort zone. #PDSDEdChat
#ThankYou for participating in #PDSDEdChat tonight, Penn-Delco SD ! I learned so much about parent and family engagement across our district, and I'm taking away so many great new ideas! #YouRock -- Joshua Leight #TeacherAppreciationWeek
Nicholas Pignataro Penn-Delco Professional Learning Community The DCIU has helped me finding help. I also reached out to local college professors and used a prearranged FaceTime chat to speak with a family. Nicholas Pignataro
