We are so excited to welcome Kelsey of @powlessandco to Ma’awnjiding Wiingushkeng. Today, Kelsey is teaching some Indigenous secondary students how to use a scroll saw. The students are working together with Kelsey to make something special for the centre.

In Ojibwe our word for corn is maandamin(pronounced maan-da-min). Also translates to the wonder seed. Corn is Indigenous to the Americas.

A special piece made by @peelschools Indigenous students and @powlessandco. We made sure to incorporate a greeting our friend Navajo friend Dana-ban taught us when she visited in September. We will always think of her when we see this.

Today on National Day of Awareness of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (Red Dress Day), we remember the over 1000 missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and Two-Spirit peoples. Let's take steps to understand the truth and the continued impacts of colonialism.
