‘You knew what you were getting into. Suck it up’ - a common refrain from unsympathetic patients when I had a community-based family practice And then after 4 years of working harder for less, I quit. I saw how much worse it was going to get. That was 19 years ago this week.

$16 per visit after investing 10+ years of your life, getting 20000 hours of medical training and going hundreds of thousands of & in debt. Somebody make this make sense! Community-based family practice is the worst job in all of medicine...

Jon Meddings Family PHYSICIANS are essential to a strong cost effective primary healthcare foundation. It is more than proven in evidence based studies that this is the most cost effective way to run healthcare. It is solid and very predictable. Very undervalued. The loss will be profound

My thanks to Dr. Alex Duong for guest blogging on my site as he writes about the challenges facing early-mid career family physicians. @oufp, #onhealth #onpoli justanoldcountrydoctor.com/2024/02/28/dr-…

Today, to start a #familymedicine clinic “requires high 6 figures to 1 million dollars, loaned at 6.95% interest.” Pitting family med ideals against the wall of economic realities. This is why many #burnout & leave a career they love #ONpoli, please help justanoldcountrydoctor.com/2024/02/28/dr-…

Family doctors are speaking out. The time to act is now before they vanish forever. Everyone in Ontario deserves access to a family doctor. Like and repost if you agree. #Onhealth

NEW: Why do 2.2 million people not have a family doctor in Ontario? Some physicians say one key factor: how family doctors get paid. They say the rising costs of running a family practice + the growing amount of unpaid admin work are outpacing OHIP fees. cbc.ca/news/canada/to…

We asked some of Ontario Medical Association what they wanted the public to know about the crisis in family medicine. Everyone in Ontario deserves access to a family doctor. The time to act is now before it's too late. Like and repost if you agree. #Onhealth

@CBCQueensPark @hbardell1 My daughter’s friend just graduated med school. She is one of 3 who chose to go into family practice because no one else felt they could afford it Less than a year later, she is already considering a specialty because she has no life and can’t afford to live on her pay

Excellent article by ⁦⁦@CBCQueensPark⁩ Why family doctors choose to leave #familymedicine boils down to 2 reasons: 1. Lack of funding — haircuts now pay more than a visit to a doctor 2. Too much paperwork meaning less time with patients #ONpoli cbc.ca/news/canada/to…

I’m begging the public to understand that childhood immunizations are not profitable for your child’s doctor -AND- they are among the least profitable products made by pharma — Pediatricians really just want to help keep your kids healthy 🩷

The end of community-based family practice is upon us. Avoidance of and exodus from community-based family practice is accelerating and we are at the tipping point. I am not exaggerating. This is not a joke. You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone…

ottawacitizen.com/news/local-new… For those keeping track that’s $220 for a nurse practioner to do a pap & give results compared to $37 visit +$15 pap + $0 results call = $52 for a family doctor from OHIP. You can’t find a family doctor because they are paid 400% below market value.

Dr. Anna Holland (@annahollandmd) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Simple and wise words. Invest in family doctors. Pay them 2024 rates. Sure tackling admin burden and infrastructure support will help too. Pay matters most when overhead on average 30% and climbing. Retain the family doctors we have before it’s too late. tvo.org/article/maybe-…

Paul Conte (@pconte1) 's Twitter Profile Photo

$23.75 - $37.95 per visit no matter how many issues addressed in a visit. After 35% overhead, down to $15.44 - $24.67. After 10+ years, 20000 hours of training and hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt. Yeah…no thanks…
