Yes it is happening again in 2024. Is NOT disease pathogens do not concentrate to leaf tips. Diseases start in the base of crops not two specific leaves in mid-upper canopy. Time stamp of cold event in barley crops and usually more severe with lower N levels.

#Striperust thrives in cool, moist conditions with temperatures between 10ยฐC and 15ยฐC and prolonged leaf wetness from dew or rain. These disease favoring conditions have been ideal at #Cobbitty this year and our #disease screening nurseries PBI Cobbitty, University of Sydney are thriving.

Plugger The barley rust is likely barley grass stripe rust (BGYr). PBI Cobbitty, University of Sydney identified new BGYr which has increased virulence to some commercial barley varieties. Generally low levels. Check any surrounding barley grass for BGYr. Worth sending sample to cereal rust survey to check.
