The Rafael Devers trade is official. As expected, it's Kyle Harrison, Jordan Hicks, James Tibbs III and Jose Bello for Devers, the new centerpiece of the lineup at Oracle Park.

The Red Sox announced that Kyle Harrison was optioned to Triple-A, so Giants likely won't see him next weekend when they visit Oracle Park.

Hey, the Giants are in the deferred contract game. They're taking on roughly $255 million with Rafael Devers, who passes Willy Adames to become the highest-paid player in franchise history. Buster Posey, a member of the ownership group, signed one and traded for one.

The Giants lost 5-4. They dropped the series and will leave Los Angeles two games out in the NL West, but when they resume their push for the postseason on Tuesday, they'll have Rafael Devers.

Bob Melvin said the Rafael Devers trade went through as he was walking into the dugout for the game. Melvin: “This is something we really needed. This is a huge move by Zack and Buster. This fits us perfectly.”

Buster Posey said he’s been talking to the Red Sox about Rafael Devers for a few weeks. Posey: “The bat is so special. It’s really hard to acquire this type of talent at this point of his career. It felt like this was a chance to take a shot.”

Both Posey and Melvin said they’ll hold off on talking about where Devers will play until they talk to him about it. Devers told Adames, a friend for 10 years, that he’ll fly to San Francisco tomorrow. Adames: “We needed someone like him for the lineup.”

Buster Posey said "it wasn't easy" to trade Kyle Harrison, noting that ultimately he wants to build around pitching. But this was a unique opportunity. Logan Webb talked to Harrison on his way out and told him "he'll be a star over there."
