This is a blatant misrepresentation of our work science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…. Our study does not in any way suggest that the application of SPF50 sunscreen “blocks our natural defences” or is detrimental to health.

PAs are not experts in any specialist medical role. PAs are a dependent role that requires supervision from a doctor and so by definition can never be an expert...

Furthermore to be an expert takes more than a 2 years masters. it takes a doctor 10-15 yrs post medical school to

Why is it up to Reddit user u\sildenifil_prn to raise this?

Where are the Care Quality Commission?

Where are the NHS England Workforce, Training and Education?

Where are any of the people who are getting paid to look at this to keep patients safe!?

Wes Streeting MP Thanks for asking

As some one who has worked in the NHS for 35 yrs and examined its working throughout that time my list of what needs changing would start with

Stop breaking the system by defunding it in the name of efficiency. It is way beyond the point at which trying to cut

🆘 PAs’ innovation will never come to an end:

A patient with decompensated heart failure was drenched by PA in A+E:

⛔️HF patients must not be given IV fluids

⛔️PAs have zero clinical skills and judgement

⛔️Supervising Doctor failed to safeguard his pt

Child Protection medical examinations carried out by an unregulated person with a two year course.

Do the parents know that their child is being intimately examined by a person who isn't a doctor and is completely unregulated?

Alder Hey, this is shocking practice.

GMC I don’t recall the response from the GMC to the hundreds of illegal prescriptions and scans requested by PAs - a role that is coming under regulation by yourselves imminently.

The minute they are registered, I hope you will respond to the hundreds of GMC referrals for this.

Please, NHS England & Amanda Pritchard - please - intervene to help this poor doctor who’s been placed in a desperate situation by their training programme.

If NHS values mean anything at all, this kind of inhumanity & cruelty towards members of staff just has to stop 😔

Today we have written to the Chief Executive of NHS England requesting a pause to the further expansion of MAPs across the NHS while significant patient safety concerns persist.

Hello RCHT

Is this factually correct or errors made in response?

As per NHS England NHS England Workforce, Training and Education Royal College of Physicians Faculty of PAs @ RCP
PAs CANNOT prescribe due to safety issues

If accurate, this needs stopping.
Now.

Leaders across organisations- what HAVE you unleashed across the NHS?

For ANY lay person, alarm bells would automatically ring:

“The professional reason to be a PA (over a doctor) is you stay a ‘generalist’ & therefore can work in ANY specialty at ANY point in our career without the need to take any formal training

…whereas doctors would have to

A lot of talk about how unrealistic it is that PAs would ever be anywhere near the intubation of children...

So unrealistic that the London School of Paediatrics and HEE published this document with an example job description…

In a nutshell this is the issue. PAs, who have a cursory level of training in a strict subset of medicine are given 'permission' here to practice at a level above that of a fully qualified doctor. Is this what the public want? Is this safe or appropriate? 1/2 BMJ_Open

It's hard not to see Medicine being assailed from all sides.

Even from those who are supposed to promote the highest standards of care and professionalism.

Here is what David Oliver and I think about the GMC's proposed changes to Medical Education.
