A couple stop motion clips from nightjarring evenings last week. First: wing quiver and clap, second: coming off the ground to chase a rival, third: wing clapping display. Awesome birds to experience, so unique amongst our species SurreyBirdClubNews Surrey Wildlife Trust

Goldcrest is a rare capture on our BTO Constant Effort Site at Swindon STW. This one is locally bred, it is so young it hasn't got its crown feathers yet. They are very common in conifer trees across the UK but unusual in our scrub and marsh.

So many great butterflies species at Tiddesley Wood (Worcestershire) yesterday, in addition to the star of the show, the Purple Emperor. We saw 15 species in 5h; other highlights were lots of Silver-washed Fritillaries, White Admiral and Purple Hairstreak. Worcs Wildlife Trust West Midlands Butterfly Conservation .

DAY SEVEN OF POSTING MY FAVORITES The amount of patience and preparing it took for this image to come to fruition is astronomical! I spent an entire summer chasing down the songs of the Indigo Bunting and didn’t photograph a single one where I felt it portrayed its REAL beauty.

Of all the pieces I’ve drawn over the last 5 years, this one is probably closest to my heart. Turtle Doves are struggling - in fact they are the UK’s fastest declining species. In the UK we have lost 98% of our turtle doves since 1967. 🧵

Cracking morning. Not often you get to see Red-crested Pochard in the hand, so to catch two and set a new longevity record that has stood since 1965 is a cracking day! 🔥🔥🔥 BTO

I don’t know what’s in the Musselburgh water this year that’s making the scoter show so well, or what’s caused the apparent change in White-winged Scoter status, but both are welcome. The new WWS found y’day still present this am as well as the drake Surf Birding Lothian
