Councillors DO NOT have the authority to fire Council staff or set Terms of Employment. Reform Councils are going to be a shit show. Councillors set strategy, finance and policy. Staffing decisions are made by the CEO, Heads of Departments and HR over which Cllr’s have no say.

Let’s also get some perspective on Reform’s Councillor numbers as a whole. They are segment 1 (behind the Greens)…

As a council we take seriously our responsibility to residents and we are clear about what we can, and can’t do when it comes to sewage in our sea. We’re neither Southern Water, with the responsibility for dealing with sewage, nor the Environment Agency, with enforcement powers.

I have a medically increased risk of skin cancer and sunburn, but even for healthy people, sunscreen is a necessity. I wouldn't be surprised if this were cost-neutral, by taking pressure off the NHS. Either way, this change would clearly be in the public good.
