I keep hearing this cold and flu season that everyone is sicker because we wore masks and now our immune systems are weaker due to fewer exposures. This is untrue and now we have evidence to support why "this flu is worse than covid", it's immune dysregulation. #covid #maskup

It looks like Covid suppresses innate immunity toward other viruses and Bacteria This doesn't bode well for the severity of other infections that aren't even covid Think of all the people saying "The worst cold of my life" Mild covid is harming the response to the common cold

Reasons I don’t do FM despite being trained in FM: - ever-expanding inescapable Inbox avalanche - Forms - dumping by specialists - would struggle to pay my student debt - hard to find locums/take time off - inability to access resources, leaving FP to do work not trained for

What a colossal waste of money building these clinic vans. Government of Newfoundland & Labrador we have plenty of empty clinics that you haven't been able to staff in months that can be used to see patients. It's embarrassing how hard this gov't is choosing foolish endeavors instead of utilizing what we have.

The most important improvement needed in Canadian #health systems right now is access to health services. The most effective way to achieve that is to value the folks who do the work and keep the system running. Value people -> solve patient access.

Stop telling me “to do my research.” Sane people use the internet to research the best price on underpants and the top recipe for mushroom risotto. You can’t research pandemics and virology on the internet to the point where you become a credible authority. - Shaye Ganam

11 million dollars. Instead of paying family doctors to actually work here. I'd love to know how this is meeting college regulations of having to be able to provide in-person care when needed. This is appalling. No one asked for this. #healthcarecrisis #NLhealth

UNBELIEVABLE 😡😡😡 So not only is this government prioritizing care with no in-person component and no continuity, now it is to be outsourced to a US-based company. Remind me the chapter in Health Accord where this was recommended??

This guy shouldn't see a day inside of HMP but rather get a much lengthier sentence and sent straight to Dorchester. The only way to stop the social acceptance of driving impaired in NL is to start handing out maximum sentences. My friend had her life forever altered by this POS.

NL MOH saying that FPs need to provide less virtual care and more in-person care is really rich considering our gov't just threw 22 million dollars at an out-of-province virtual care service instead of actually supporting FPs working in NL. #ostrichgovt vocm.com/2024/02/04/osb…

Just imagine everyone debating your right to bodily autonomy based on passages from ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.’ You’d feel pretty confused and angry, right? Well, that’s exactly how I feel when I listen to people discuss the Bible in relation to my rights.

Breaking down the family medicine residency match for MUNFamMed. 40% of MUN spots unmatched versus 15% across all schools. This is no coincidence given current state of FM in NL . Government of Newfoundland & Labrador Tom Osborne LIB We have some work to do if we want to turn this around.

Preventative care is one of my favorite aspects of medicine. Always enjoy these women's wellness clinics and having the opportunity to teach others about the health benefits of spending time in nature. Get outside 2 hours per week, everyone. #parksrx

This statement shows the Tories have no idea how the FFS model works. It's takes time to negotiate the MOA to bill MCP for services. Also, the model is awful and contributes to FPs leaving practice. NPs would quit quickly if they had to use that billing structure & pay overhead

While other provinces make moves to stabilize FM, Government of Newfoundland & Labrador is going to arbitration with its MD's. Has GovNL just decided that a phone call from a doctor anywhere but NL is the best we can do to provide primary care to our citizens? They have lost the plot.

Paula Slaney MD, CCFP, FAWM (@paula_slaney) 's Twitter Profile Photo

If family doctors in NL were paid $578 per visit, I doubt there would be a shortage. MCP pays your family docs on average $40 per visit (before overhead). Our gov't continues to spend millions on bandaid solutions while FPs close their doors across the province #nlpoli #nlhealth
