I like looking at athletes and at some sports but all Olympic opening ceremonies seem to me to be basically someone standing on a ladder setting fire to huge quantities of bank notes and after five minutes sweeping up the ashes and departing.

So American friends if you were planning on adding on a few days to the Boston RSA/SAAfest where might you go? I was wondering about Provincetown for a few days, I'd like to see something of cape Cod but would prefer not to drive. Nantucket?

Ok I still Iike reading circle of people on here I like but I think maybe only opening it two days a week instead of every day is a good idea, so expect slower kisses than usual.

It's here friends! The latest issue of Parergon - an open issue with something for everyone: Orderic Vitalis, Spenser, Chinese translations of Chaucer, plus special clusters of articles on Renaissance art & science and medieval and early modern poetry. muse.jhu.edu/issue/51926

Hey US friends now that Susan is coming with me to Boston we are working out what to do. After five days in Boston I was thinking of ferry to Provincetown and maybe 4 days there. Is Nantucket doable without a car? I mean we could hire one I guess.

I know there are issues but as someone checking on Margaret Cavendish's journey through the 19th century I remain eternally grateful for 'The Internet' esp Hathi Trust, online archive and even heaven help me google books (sorry).

I knew Mrs Oliphant had written an essay on Margaret Cavendish in Blackwood’s Magazine, but I had no idea it was so detailed and interesting. Thanks to Jim Fitzmaurice for alerting me to it in his essay in the CUP collection on her.
