Co-op has already spent too long refusing the votes of its members. The biggest animal welfare crisis happening right now is Frankenchickens, and Co-op can and should lead the way. To stop the suffering of millions, they must stop selling Frankenchickens. #CrueltyAtTheCoop

Today is Wold Philosophy Day. The perfect time to remember the famous quote by Philosopher Jeremy Bentham who, in 1789, wrote in relation to animals; “The question is not, Can they reason? nor, Can they talk? but, Can they suffer?”. #WorldPhilosophyDay

Is veganism rising? Headlines confidently claim yes and no based on rival surveys. New research, by Zach Freitas-Groff 🔸 et al using grocery receipts, offers a more reliable answer... 2X more households aren't buying animal products than in 2005, but it's still only ~1% of households.

Children struggle to understand that animals are sources of food. Not only do they sometimes struggle to identify which foods are plant-based and which are animal-based, but most say that it is not acceptable to eat animals.

Today Defra UK dismissed a report on factory farm cruelty, replying that "all farms are closely regulated..." On Wednesday, it came out that DEFRA inspected just 2.5% of UK farms in 2022-23 and enforced the law vs. even fewer. Time to end legal immunity for factory farms.

It’s very concerning when companies go back on their promises to improve animal welfare. As I told The Guardian, many companies are following through on their pledges, but some - like KFC UK - appear to be backtracking. theguardian.com/food/2024/nov/…

KFC UK won't fulfill its animal welfare pledge. It says that's because it lacks supply of high-welfare chicken. Yet its own producer, 2SFG, says it can supply enough high-welfare chicken to meet customer requirements. When will journalists call out this PR spin?

The new European Commission has taken office and for the first time it includes a dedicated Commissioner for Animal Welfare. It’s a promising sign that citizens’ calls for better EU laws to protect animals are being heard. Let’s hope this leads to meaningful action. #AnimalRights

Conditions on US chicken factory farms are so absymal that the industry *accidentally* kills 550M birds/year. That's more than the number of animals *intentionally* killed by all other US meat industries combined. And it's getting worse, not better... here's why:

That time when Robert F. Kennedy Jr called factory farming a "soulless industry" responsible for "unspeakable and systematic animal cruelty..." Now he has the power to do something about it ... the only question is whether he also has the courage to.

I don't have much faith in nutrition studies. But if this study had found what the meat industry intended it to -- that plant protein is worse for building muscle -- it would have been all over the media and X. Instead, silence.

So you're saying if we'd sprayed stuff white and then put a red cross on it the media would have supported us? You live and learn I guess.
