Discovered Cavalry towards June–July this year and it’s been so much fun animating with it. Love it so much that we went ahead and purchased a subscription for the pro features. Here is a thread of the animations we built with it in July: x.com/prathyvsh/stat…

If you dig this way of interacting with math, I want to bring your attention to string diagrams. Work is underway to track entire domains of mathematics/physics as a picture language! Here’s a nice introduction paper for computer scientists by Robin Piedeleu: arxiv.org/pdf/2305.08768

Math with motion graphics: here’s how associativity law looks like as an animated syntax tree. The shwoop feels like a tiny breathing exercise😅

David Arne (David Aerne) has been making some intriguing color palette tools over the years. Here’s a small thread curating them — Rampensau: x.com/meodai/status/…

This was exactly what I shared here with Andrew Plotkin’s Lists and Lists. It teaches Lisp through interactive fiction: x.com/Prabros/status…

If you’re looking for an intro to type theory and bidirectional type checking Conor has a good short series of lectures worth checking out youtu.be/bcjq9Y0JVYE

Thinking of making a catalog of possibility space explorations soon. Are there any such examples of seeking through the adjacent possible in a latent space like this that has come across your attention?

A frontier of interface design lies in identifying and specifying the fitness space of the design language you are working with. Here’s a stunning animation from 麦 ⌇Baku illustrating how you can perform this for typefaces: x.com/_baku89/status…

If we denote ⨍ⁿ(x) as ⨍ composed n times, then we can capture the conceptual structures that track the hyper list hierarchy easily. List⁰(x) = Unit List¹(x) = List List²(x) = Tree List³(x) = Forest Do degrees 4 and 5 have standard names? Curiously, what does List⁻¹ mean?

TIL that there’s this amazing idea called spatial keyframing for interpolating between multiple poses of a character smoothly. Great work by Takeo Igarashi, Tomer Moscovich, and John Hughes from 2005! Wonder why it hasn’t made it to industry yet. www-ui.is.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp/~takeo/researc…

Starting a series visualizing the isomorphic forms of binary code with motion graphics. Here’s a small step towards it. Experimenting with aesthetics and layouts at this point before converging in on one.

This looks like a compelling read on the essential tension that makes for a great toy/game by Jess Uhr Rahbek. Available free to read here: designskolenkolding.dk/en/research-de…

This ability to control the timelines of multiple artboards using a single control in Cavalry is pretty powerful! It opens up the ability to create Figma style variants of components but using time as the parameter.
