The observance of Juneteenth calls us to recommit ourselves to the work of equity, equality, and justice. Each June 19, and especially today in Minnesota, we are reminded of our incredible capacity to heal, hope, and emerge from our darkest moments with purpose and resolve.

The lives impacted by Melissa’s legacy as Speaker will be measured in millions. Minnesota will never forget the Hortmans.

I’m in contact with the Minnesota National Guard regarding tensions in the Middle East. We have several troops performing a federal mission in the region. They are trained, ready, and focused on their mission. We’ll continue to track their deployment and keep them in our prayers.

I’m headed up to Bemidji to meet with local emergency managers and survey damage from severe storms this weekend. We’re making sure impacted communities have every resource they need to recover and rebuild.

As a Metro Transit police officer, Beverly Rodriguez led the Homeless Action Team where she exemplified compassionate, community-focused policing to our neighbors experiencing homelessness. Minnesota is sending our love to her family, and we thank her for her exemplary service.
