We haven't collected on defaulted student loans in over 5 years and the only thing that happened was people lived their lives safe from financial ruin. Any politician of any party who tells you this is necessary is completely unserious and will never fight for working people.

Reminder that 40% of people with student debt don’t have a college degree. So whenever we talk about people who defaulted on their loans, it’s usually people who are being paid at the level of a high school diploma recipient. This is a massive regressive tax on the low income.
