“We are prioritizing the needs of the wealthy ....this a monumental step back in efforts to end hunger and poverty and improve health outcomes.” Vicky Negus Massachusetts Law Reform Institute Trump's 'beautiful bill' means for Medicaid and food stamps bostonglobe.com/2025/05/24/met… via The Boston Globe

House Republicans passed a bill that will raise costs for MA families & slash health coverage (Medicaid) & food assistance (SNAP) for 1.65M and 1.11M Bay Staters. These are the largest cuts ever for Medicaid & SNAP—hitting families in rural, urban, and suburban areas.

House Republicans voted on May 22nd for the largest cuts to food assistance & healthcare in our nation’s history— giving more money to billionaires & wealthy corporations. The ultra-rich will get even richer, while millions in Massachusetts will suffer. #MApoli

1 in 6 MA residents use SNAP to help buy groceries. 1 in 3 depend on MassHealth. The bulk of residents harmed are kids, older adults and persons with disabilities. This bill would slash these lifelines, making hunger, poverty, and poor health worse across the Commonwealth.

The GOP bill dumps $53M/year in SNAP costs onto MA immediately & up to $660M/year in SNAP benefits starting in 2027. SNAP brings $2.6B fed. food $ annually to MA & shifting fed. costs to states would end SNAP’s role as one of the best tools we have to support local economies.

Up to 350,000 MassHealth members & 230,000 SNAP recipients in MA could lose coverage or benefits. Burdensome work requirements & red tape are designed to kick eligible people off—decades of evidence show these don’t increase employment, just hardship. cbpp.org/research/state…

I just met with Education Secretary Linda McMahon, and I gave her over 1,000 letters from people across the country who are worried about what she's doing to the Department of Education.

Grateful to Katherine Clark for her leadership opposing deep cuts to SNAP, Medicaid & other programs targeted by the Rs. This Big Betrayal of Women harms all of our communities - transferring billions from the lowest income families to the wealthiest. #HandsOffSNAP #HandsOffMedicaid

GOP leaders's proposed SNAP cuts will have a huge harmful impact on low income Mass residents. We must stop playing games with people's lives in order to give tax breaks to the uber-wealthy. #HandsOffSNAP Elizabeth Warren Ed Markey Pls OPPOSE Sen AG proposal!
