My aviation fiction reading this week features something a little lighter (but perhaps more iconic?) than most..although I'm not sure crew chiefs still play bridge these days?! #Aviation #PopularGeopolitics #MilitaryFiction #TheMostFamousFlyingAce

Still reading lots of military aviation fiction, but not sure this one will make the cut ;) Pity it wasn't a combat mission, she could have shot him with her sidearm...

In the 1950s, a viable solution to the problem of intercepting high altitude bombers seemed to be a mixed-power plant fighter. The Avro 720 achieved 40kft 1.5mins after T/O with help from a rocket engine. Designed for M=2.0; tested at RAE Bedford. Note the model is very small!

On Feb 10, 1908, the US Army awarded the Wright Brothers a contract for an airplane. The contract was two pages long. You probably can't even get the table of contents onto two pages for most modern government contracts!

The NASA Johnson Space Center’s WB-57 regularly images astronauts returning from the ISS and soon to be from the Moon! This mission was to perform a calibration on the imagery sensor prior to the Crew-5 capsule on its fiery return to Earth! Godspeed Crew-5!!!

The last Basler (AWI) leaving the continent for the season. We've got one more Twin Otter to fly north and a few more Dash-7 rotations before we fully closeout the flying season down here. British Antarctic Survey 🐧
